“Our lives at times seem a study in contrast… love & hate, birth & death, right & wrong… everything seen in absolutes of black & white.

Too often we are not aware that it is the ” Shades of Grey ” that add depth & meaning to the starkness of those extremes.” – Ansel Adams

Open Source

“Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.” Peter Adams

Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn’t make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel.  Peter Adams ,  Sydney 1978 .

I discovered that while many photographers think alike when it comes to equipment and chemistry, there are seldom two who agree on anything when it comes to what constitutes a good image. Peter Adams  , Lenswork – Feb-Mar 2002 .

Ashley McNamara – Portland, Oregon.

The geography of a person’s face can be very interesting, but a close-up will not tell us who the person is, how they think or live, or the situation they’re in. Peter Adams  , in B&W Magazine .

Peter Adams, Photographer.

Peter is a California based photographer whose work includes portraits and reportage for brands and editorial clients.

Prior to working as a photographer, Peter spent many years founding and running tech companies in New York and Silicon Valley — experience which now enables him to develop a unique rapport with his clients and subjects.

In 2014, Peter began the Faces of Open Source  portrait project

Faces of Open Source

which is an on-going photographic documentation of people who dedicate themselves to the development and advancement of open source technologies. To date he has photographed dozens of notable and unsung heroes of the open source revolution.

Camera is the only Reason

The camera makes you forget you’re there. It’s not like you are hiding but you forget, you are just looking so much. Annie Leibovitz

Sometimes I enjoy just photographing the surface because I think it can be as revealing as going to the heart of the matter. Annie Leibovitz

When you are younger, the camera is like a friend and you can go places and feel like you’re with someone, like you have a companion. Annie Leibovitz

I still need the camera because it is the only reason anyone is talking to me. Annie Leibovitz

Every Flight begins with a Fall,

“What are you doing to me?” he asked the Crow,

Teaching you how to fly.

“I can’t fly!”

You’re flying right now.

“I’m falling!”

Every flight begins with a fall,

the Crow said.”
